Are they the same thing? Im currently running on a Broadband 2mb connection from a cable modem. If i were to purchase this would it still maintain the speeds of upload and download I currently have on my cable modem? or is ADSL and Cable modems the same thing?

I'm not exactly sure about what you're asking. If you're planning on getting a DSL connection along with your current cable connection, they shouldn't affect each other's speed but will require other equipment if you want to combine their bandwidth. If you're talking about changing modems, you wouldn't be able to use that one because it's for a different type of internet connection.

So I cant use an ADSL modem with a cable service? Where can I buy cable modems from? Not ADSL, or DSL or Dial up.

Im not looking to share my connection. Im just looking to replace my current 4 year old cable modem which was supplied by default by the company. I want the best quality cable modem out there, but all my searches come up with ADSL modems, and as ligoc stated i cant use a ADSL modem with a cable connection here is my current ISP.

I already have that modem, thats what im on now. Are there any other modems out there? all i can find are motorola and vector which is a standard modem for another cable company in london like the surfboard is for telewest, the vector is for NTL. Any higher quality modems out there?

I've been using the linksys cable modem for about a year and I haven't had any problems with it. If you're trying to get better speeds, replacing the modem will have little to no effect. I don't know of any modems that would be considered higher quality than the ones already mentioned.

I have a Motorola SURFboard SB4200 modem, with Comcast service (I live in Delaware), and love it. The modem is about a year old. I was renting a 2 year old RCA modem at the time, and when I bought the motorola I saw no speed difference. I like that you can put it in Standby mode for when the computer is off, and it won't loose the signal - just press the power button again and surf away!

Let me approach this from another angle then. What are you hoping to gain by replacing your modem, because unless your modem is physically defective you probably won't gain anything.

My modem is 4 years old and I just want to replace it with a newer, better, updated modem and was wondering what choices are there. As I cant use an ADSL modem ill probably just get a SB5100 SURFboard from motorola.
