A little good news:
1) I've racked up about $150 in donations so far
2) They're knocking about $160 off the bill to help me out, so it's still about $800 after getting rabies, basic vet visit, ets, but it's better. So, with the donations I need to scrape together about $650. It's a start.

Call a news station. They're suckers for stories about kittens. As a side note, have you tried finding the kitten's owners? Do you know she is feral and not a run-away from somebody's home?

I live in an apartment compled that's pretty packed full of people and cars. There's another couple of complex's nearby. There's a wooded area directly behind me. If anyone's letting their cats out on purpose, they're bloody irresponsible. Some of the cats tear into the food because they're starving. I've literally had cats sitting around on my porch in the middle of the night or early morning, waiting for food. They're a big stray/feral problem in my area.

Across the street at UNCC, they have a colony of OVER A HUNDRED ferals. I've met one of the ladies who feed them and leave trays of food all over the place.

Anyway, she was with her mom, who was pretty skittish. Going by the condition of her tail, there is NO WAY she belongs to anybody.

that seems expensive for an amputation. my cat had a whole leg removed, which must be far more complicated than a tail, for ~$500.

Hmm.... maybe I'll check with another vet before the operation tomorrow... I mean, that does seem a bit high, from what you're saying...

ETA: Horrified at this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/4230306.stm First, he had access to free vet care and didn't take it (mentioned towards the end of the article), then he bound up his dog's leg for 10 months after it was injured, then he cut the leg off himself.

Sick.

I appreciate it, I really do. She's going in for surgery at two o'clock today. I neglected to ask, but they'll probably keep her overnight for observation. Poor kitty 🙁

bump. Surgery was supposed to be today, but I got bumped because another cat was mauled by a dog and needed immediate emergency treatment/surgery.

Local humane group is contributing some vaccines, Revolution (flea/ear mite killer) and de-worming meds.
