I've had lots of stray cats come by my porch, and I've gotten 2 fixed, kept 2, adopting out 1, and trying to tame 1. I found a 2 month cat on my porch tonight. He is one of the most affectionate, adorable cats ever. He's the first to not only let me approach, but he's been all over me for attention and even let me pick him up. I would rather wait to take him in, but I can't:
His tail's messed. I mean, MESSED. UP. It looks like part of it's been severed, and the rest is a solid mass of scabs. I HAVE to take him to the vet tomorrow to get him looked at, one way or the other.
I'm dirt poor, but I want to help this little fella. If anyone's willing to contribute to the vet bills, I've got a paypal button at awasteoffilm.com
My computer with my media reader's down right now, but I'll try to get pics up tomorrow.
Minor update: The tail had a little white-ish fluid leaking out this morning. He licked his tail a bit, but I think it was just normal washing, since he didn't seem to be in pain or obsessed with cleaning it, like woundede animals usually do with a wound. A couple of vet technicians think it may need to be amputated
They'll get back to me a little later with an update.
I've also asked them to take some pics and e-mail them to me, in case I can't get my frigging computer up. Damn RAID drivers no longer work :|
Additonal edt:
Another thing, in which I really really really really REALLY beg:
I just got called back from the vet, including the costs for the basic office visit and Rabies...
it's about $650 for the amputation.
If some of you are willing, PLEASE contribute to help this little girl-cat out. They said that with testing and all, they probably couldn't do it until tomorrow at the earliest anyway, but I like to think fate brought her to my doorstep with a super-friendly personality to get her fixed.

ETA: A little good news:
1) I've racked up about $150 in donations so far
2) They're knocking about $160 off the bill to help me out, so it's still about Receptionist screwed up, cost was only $650 after getting rabies, basic vet visit, ets, but it's better. So, with the donations I need to scrape together about Another $350
*Update* Donations have hit $250 now
*Update* Donations have hit $300 now
*Update* Local humane group is contributing some vaccines, Revolution (flea/ear mite killer) and de-worming meds.
*Update*
The cat's home! They told me she didn't eat this morning, but she started eating some after I brought her home. She's in the bathroom now. She's affectionate and talkative as ever, despite lacking the tail. I asked after the fact (or course) if she would have die without the operation. Apparently it was "maybe" since it could have led to an infection that spread to her liver (or was it kideneys?) and and possibly her brain. Another possibility was her chewing off her tail. Regardless, in their medical opinion it needed to go.
They gave me one of those "plastic collars" to keep her from licking herself, but they said she HATED it, so they left it to my discretion to just watch her to make sure she isn't licking the wound too much, or try to deal with her trying to tear off the collar. I've also got some anti-biotics to give her twice a day for the next week or two, and another followup visit to get the stiches removed next Friday.
She's free of fleas and ear mites, thank Athena, and she shouldn't spread anything until I get her Revolution on Sunday.
Also, the receptionist screwed up on the original quote, so both the surgery and the visit (including rabies and leukemina/AIDS test) was only $650! I only need about $350 or so to pay off everything! Paypal's being annoying about verifying my bank info so I can accept credit card payments, so I put the first payment of $300 on my credit card and will immediatedly apply the Paypal funds to the card after they verify my account (stupid Paypal)
At my request they took some post-op pics, and I'll post them as soon as they e-mail them to me. For those paranoid that I'm running a scam, I'm also going to break out my scanner and upload a copy of the bill to show I'm not B.S.ing. Still, if you'd rather "guarantee" I'm not running a scam, http://www.stoneycreek.vetsuite.com/ is the website of the vet and you can contact them about donating to Forrest Wilson's bill for "Traya" (name of the cat).
*Edit* The vet did send the pictures, finally.

Update: Took kitty to the vet yesterday for the followup. Actually the second followup as I also took her in on Tuesday since I couldn't tell if she just had some nasty looking scabbing around the surgical wound or if the flesh was still mortifying. Frankly, the vet was amazed at how well she was healing on Tuesday, since there was virtually no swelling. She got the stiches removed and is as sweet as ever. The doctor STILL doesn't want to come out to see me, except when I came in on Tuesday. I didn't get to talk to him before the operation for the initial visit, when I went to pick her up and get her discharge instructions and medication, or at the final followup. He's a good guy, going by the five minutes I saw him on Tuesday, but I'll probably try to go with another doc at the vet since I like actually talking to the guy/girl who performed a medical procedure instead of a vet technician. Just sayin'. As to the tail, after more prodding on my part since they didn't really volunteer that much information, while the pictures on my website were really nasty, it wasn't gangrene. However, all of the flesh in the tail was dead and all of the nerves in that area were also dead. It *could* have eventually turned lethal, providing she got an infection through her spine, but maybe not. I dunno, since the problem with talking to a doctor is that they go super-technical so without a medical degree, a few medical classes, or intensive research of your own, you have no idea what they're talking about and just smile and nod your head.
Also, I'm still short $300 to finish paying for the operation and need to get it all together by the 15th, so if you know anyone sympathetic to injured kitties, direct them to this thread, okay? They don't have to donate directly to me, I've listed the hospital web-address if they want to contact the hospital instead (Stoney Creek, it's a couple of updates above this one). Thanks.
*Update* Have hit about $450 in donations so far. Thanks to everyone who's helped. I'm still $200 short of the full bill, so any more help would be appreciated. If I can finall get my damn desktop computer up (which has the only media reader I have from my smartmedia camera) I'll try to get some more pics for people who like seeing cat pictures in a non-vet environment
