Adobes PDF Reader and the Professional version are the most blated pieces of software out there. I pray for the day that MS kills PDF. I just recently tried Foxit Reader and that is million times better than Adobe's PDF reader. Sadly there is no way to get around Professional if you work a lot with PDFs. I hope and pray that the next MS Office finally does away with PDF.

And Symantec is basically complaining that MS is making windows too secure. You have to be kidding me ...

Yeah, I'm getting Adobe Acrobat Pro, too. I heared it's got a lot of features for document creation, and the safety of people not tampering with your files if all they've got is Acrobat Reader. I WOULD like a decent FireFox extension for PDF's, though.

And Symantec Antivirus rules. They use it on servers, too. Constant virus protection, not as bloated as Norton AntiVirus and it scans quicker, too.

At least Adobe Reader has been improving lately. Recent versions load much faster.

I am an anti-virus hater though. They are mostly bloated, don't do crap and confuse end users. I have been using PCs for 12+ years and only once had a virus issue, and that was from my mom opening an unknown attachment. So yeah, screw Symantec.

umm, while i can't argue againt your first comment, symantec makes norton anti-virus. so...yeah. and homestarmy, why do you think the EC is now fining MS? they made the OS to secure and it "stiffles" competition for 3rd party companys. this is the only thing that will increase competition. companys will have to create better programs to rival what MS includes.

I can understand Microsoft's motives to integrate XPS in its operating systems because I see how useful PDF integration is in OS X.

I think that every version of Adobe Reader after 5 was bloated for the Mac OS. But PDF is still a very useful thing, the format can be created, edited and printed on many platforms. PDF also is my format of choice for university work.

XPS on the other hand is meant to be compatible "with every OS as long as it comes from Redmond" and it soon will replace PDF use to some degree in the Windows user base. I am conviced that Microsoft will create unidirectional incompatibility with many specification alterations, should XPS be adapted in another OS.

It is regrettable that Windows users will lose PDF and the PostScript format... not least for the users of other OSes.

(And of the user base is not the only reason why other OSes are more secure than Windows)
