Adobe programs and Intel-based Macintoshes

Well we got my father a 20" iMac for his b-day / xmas - new one with the Intel Core 2 Duo

He does graphic design, and since I can get a student discount, I was thinking about the Adobe creative suite -

However, it sounds like there will not be native support for the Intel-based Mac's until CS3.

Any ideas on how CS2 will act in the intel-based macs (if it works at all) and how far off CS3 is?
Is my information even correct?

Adobe says the beta will expire soon after the formal release of Photoshop in Spring 2007. Final pricing is yet to be determined, however Photoshop CS2 currently is offered at $649 (full version, $169 upgrade).

CS2 runs alright, like maybe a 1 GHz G4 on a ~2 GHz Core 2 Duo.

However, Rosetta causes it to crash every once and a while.

The CS3 beta has been hacked to run forever.
