i guess there are no hardcore media users here. i've been attached to adobe for a while and use it at work and for school, including personal use. their products are simply top notch, and the plugins and actions allow for infinite possibilities.

if you want a quick and clean photojob to crop or brighten up, maybe you should stick with simpler programs instead of complaining about adobe's products being "bloated". the features adobe includes _are_ used and greatly appreciated, the more features the better. this is an industry used program, designed for professional use, comparing it to a freeware instant messaging program is apples to oranges.

i personally got stuck on premiere a while ago, and though it does have some faults i find it's the best composer out there. one of my friends who's also a graphics major uses final cut pro and i've heard nothing good about it, i'd personally like to switch and try that out as well but alas, i don't use a mac and as far as i know there hasn't been a ported version.

i personally really enjoy the interface premiere offers, and find that once you know the basics it becomes incredibly easy to use. it's not something newbie users who simply want to make a slideshow would want to use, and is an industry tool, it's not made to be user friendly to joe schmoe walking through frys. no one that just wants to mess around with movies is going to spend the money on it compared to something much simpler. as for the stability issues i've found i can run it several hours straight and several more encoding without a problem, and using a MJPEG output reders awesome files. i believe it has more to do with the system stability than buggy software.

i was thinking maybe there would be some decent arguments about premiere's faults, but i guess i should have known better when the title involves juevenile "licks my ballz" remarks. in short, i'd suggest you either stick with it, and learn to use it, or just plain stick that warez up your pirate hole.

<< so what video editing software would you recommend that can compete with Premiere's features, and that is in the same price range? >>

Nothing. In video editing software you get what you pay for.

Final Cut Pro for Macs and Avid Xpress DV for PCs are the way to go if you really want to do some professional level DV editing.

For the editing of analog footage the Avid series is still the winner, but you'll looking at $100,000+ for a new one. :Q

ZeroBurn:

I use this editing equipment for a living. I've used Avids, I've used Final Cut Pro and I've used Adobe Premiere. Don't automatically assume that because we're bad mouthing the software that we're all people who don't know how to use it properly.

Adobe Photoshop rocks and there isn't ANYTHING that comes close to it. Premiere, however, is lacking in a lot of respects. If your friend works on Final Cut Pro, I suggest you sit down with it for a little while. Final Cut Pro has become THE choice for low cost editing. Very VERY few professional editors would use Premiere to do all their work. The program lacks in A LOT of areas.

<< one of my friends who's also a graphics major uses final cut pro and i've heard nothing good about it >>

Ask any editor that's used Final Cut Pro and you'll hear many good things about it. People are comparing the software to Avid's high end software. While the ability to handle analog footage isn't the same as on an Avid, the software is some respects is better and they are only at version 3 - Avid is at version 10.5.

I suggest you do some more research yourself and talk to some professional editors rather than your graphics artist friends. Try here. I also suggest that you don't question peoples level in this matter when you have no clue as to who you're dealing with.

I use Final Cut Pro myself, and premiere 6 (mac, of course).
FCP3 is by far the best mid range package, featurewise it's unbeatable. I have never had problems with premiere myself, but only use it for certain things.
FCP3, although a new player in the market, has made a footprint, and is gaining large acceptance. Even though the audio control still lacks a little, the video part more than makes up for it. Editing is wonderful with FCP3.

Avid would be nice, but they need to really lower the price.

pulse8,

hehe, guess that's what i get for posting at 4am, fatigue must have set in.

what i meant to say was nothing but good, if you read the rest of the sentence it must have seemed contradictory without the but. hehe, personally wanting to switch to a proggie that has nothing good about it ;)

i got the b!tchslap i rightfully deserved on that one though.

as for automatically assuming people badmouthing it was a sign they didn't know how to use it, i hadn't. the argument was mainly directed at JackOfHearts, who i may not know personally but based judgement on several key facts. juvenile grammar and behavior, short sighted complaints, and simply being a warez monkey. these are not traits of anyone well practied in the movie making industry. although it seems you've taken it personally, and so i respectably withdraw and offer my apologies for any offense you may have taken.

It's fine. The remark wasn't directed at anyone in particular so I figured you meant both of us. No biggie. I understand what it feels like to post at 4AM sometimes. ;)
