Adobe Flash, Shockwave,, do I really need them?

Do you really need to use Adobe Flash, Shockwave, etc??
Every so often when web pages load they just freeze. That happens when I use IE,, Chrome and Firefox. All browsers are current releases.
A while ago (several weeks) as the web page froze the message saying something like shockwave or flash is busy. (Can't remember the exact wording)
I've removed and reinstalled the Adobe items but the problem is still there.
I'm running IE 10 on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Any suggestions?

Flash is trash. If you remove it, you'll miss out on some crappy games, stupid video, and malware, but your computer should run better. Youtube, and some other sites work with html5, and I consider that good enough. I don't have Flash installed.

I'm on winXP and firefox 10 so YMMV, but i downgraded to the last win2k supported version in there archive list bellow. and it works well for me so far. could give it a shot, or try other versions that relate to the generation of OS your using. Just note there uninstall instructions befor trying other versions. if so

these are the only flash alternatives I'm currently aware of but have not used yet myself.

I don't have flash installed for the exact same reasons

I hope that flash will be as deprecated as quicktime in the near future. I need it for not so trash videos unfortunately.

I don't know if there's a flashblock equivalent for IE, but if you have something like that or make plugins click to play in Chrome that cuts down on a lot of random flash loading, but it's still there if you want to watch something. Flash has gotten worse and worse for me too, but the HTML5 alternatives haven't performed any better.
