Adobe Audition + quad core?

I'm advising my brother on what cpu to get with his next system. He records music using Adobe Audition. Will a quad core help for audio like it helps for video encoding or should I tell him to get a faster dual core like the e8400 (other than music he just games and surfs)?
 
It makes a big difference on video encoding when your using a codec that supports it well.
Audio encoding isn't as hard on a processor so either will do fine.
IMHO I would go for the 8400.
It will make the biggest overall impact without having to have applications that specifically take advantage of it.
With the Quad, you could be sitting there with idle cores if your application doesn't make use of it.
