administrator rights problem...

Senior member
I just built a PC for my dad:

XP2100+
A7N8X DLX rev1.04
1GB Corsair 2700
Asus Gforce4 ti4200 128MB
WD 120GB w/8Mb cache
Liteon 52x cdrw
Liteon 16x dvd

Problem: Whenever i install XP home or pro it hangs when trying to enter windows after a fresh install. I am assuming that this is what is causing me not to be able to install certain programs such as AOL 8.0, Norton Ghost, Alcohol 120%, Nero. Some programs will install and not work and some will not install at all. Some of the programs say I don?t have administrator rights and can?t install them. That is why I assume the hangup in the beginning is messing up my admin account.

Yes I have:
Swapped out memory (none bad)
Installed XP updates (no good with or without)
Mobo drivers
Tried other video card (another ti4200)
All cables plugged in right (jumpers as well)
Installed XP ten times!!!

Would appreciate any serious advice people have to offer. Has any one had such problems with administrator rights? Is there any more info that I need to give about the system?

Thanks a bunch,
Gage

How are your accounts all set up right now? IIRC the first account you set up which is the default account has full admin rights and you shouldn't have to mess with it.

i only use the default account in xp which is administrator. Even so, i install some programs and they say i don't have administrator rights. I get all these weird erros when i try to install stuff.

So anyway, all settings default.

Is this a legit, original WinXP CD? When you reinstalled, did you do a full-blown deletion of all partitions, reformat, then install?
