I have the stock intel/fan combo for my P4 3.0 socket 478 Northwood which runs too loud for my tastes. My tempuratures idle around 35C and can go up to 42C when pushed. At idle the fan is bearable, but after the computer warms up, it is too noisy.
I have considered switching to a quiter setup by upgrading heatsink/fan but in the meantime, I would like to see if my fan speed is adjustable.
I have been read about changing the fan voltages to quiet them down, but I do not know how to do this. One article stated that going from 12v to 5v can make a huge difference, although I do not even know what voltage mine is running at. I was also wondering if there were a way to control the fan speed in the BIOS?
Help me quiet down this monster.
