Adivce on upgrade--Gaming machine

Well, since I'm not 100% sure I'll be going with a P4 system, I've considered the following option for upgrade. Can anyone tell me if there will be problems/conflicts with this setup or if you have had experiences with these parts? I've put some time bouncing from forum to forum trying to get a good idea of some of the best parts. Well, I got the Visiontek GF3 on the way already. But the rest will be ordered within the next week or so.
I'm still looking for an option of motherboards which support socket 478 and P4 1.5-1.8 prices before I decide.

ECS Socket A K7S5A SiS® 735 chipset motherboard with On-Board
LAN Port. Retail 5 PCI Slots, 1 4X AGP slot, 1 AMR slot. 2 DDR DIMM
sockets and 2 DIMM sockets support (can not be used simultaneously). Two
184-pin DDR SDRAM (DDR200, DDR266) or Two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM
(PC100, PC133)

Tekram DC-390U3W

ENERMAX EG465P-VE(FC). 431W Power
supply for AMD K7 & Pentium4.

AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz 266MHz Bus

256meg Crucial PC2100 DDR ram x 2

IBM 07N3210 SCSI 18GB 68PIN 10,000RPM
Ultrastar 36LZX Ultra 160 4.9ms Ave Seek Time
4mb Cache Buffer - OEM, Drive Only - 5year Mfr
Warranty

VISIONTEK Geforce3 64MB DDR RAM, W/ TV-Out, AGP, 350 MHz
RAMDAC. Retail Box

Any comments and suggestions welcomed.
i.e. Is Samsung or Crucial memory better?

(edited K266 out, had wrong one 🙂
(edited with ECS K7S5A motherboard and Tekram DC-390U3W)

Looks good! Whats the need for SCSI? If you have the money get it.

Forget about P4 that Athlon system will work great.

<< P4 1.5-1.8 prices >>

we're talkin 200-300 dollars for P4s in this range for just the processor. I'd go with the TB 1.4. Same performance for 100 dollars cheaper.

Retail CPUs suck. Sucky heatsink, crappy thermal paste, and you must send it to AMD (not NewEgg) for replacement.

Got to have da speed within a couple of weeks, been without my machine for a month!

So, if I go with an oem cpu, which HS/Fan combo works good for this m/b and an Inwin Q500 case?

Go with the Thermalright SK-6 w/ the delta fan. If you hav $75 bucks to spend, you can go with the top of the line heat sink which is the Swiftech 462

I suggest you go to Hyper Microsystems and pick up a Tekram DC-390U3W for $185 instead of the Adaptec 19160. The Tekram performs better, comes with cables and a terminator, and if you mention StorageReview.com in your order, you get free shipping. Bottom line, Tekram == Better Performer AND Cheaper.

Thanks for the link on the Tekram.
How does the Tekram compare to the Adaptec 19160 that I have listed?
It goes for $175.00 shipped from Newegg
