Just like Billie Holiday. That doesn't prevent her from being one of the greatest vocalists ever.

She has a very small range and makes up for it by bringing her chest voice into the upper registers. While this sounds great it is unsustainable when performing the amounts of shows they do these days.
I had to quit singing on and off broadway because like pop and rock you work till your voice is dead....

Remember elton john? In the beginning he had an amazing range with lots of interesting colors to his voice... post nodule surgery...not so much..

Sadly many of the voices we are hearing today will not be there tomorrow...


Now look at amy adams from that rock band. She actually supports her sound and sings naturally and she still had some early trouble. Now if you see them live she is heavily miked and using head voice....

shit back in the day Axel never sang live....he ran around grinded a few words and duff sang all the melody...

Adele ain't no Billie Holiday. I've never had a huge issue with a lack of range. (I love Norah Jones, and her debut album is very limited in that regard). What bugs me is Adele's attempts at variance is appalling. THAT ATTEMPT at altering her pitch is what is grating.
Also, using the nasal chambers for resonance is a fine art Adele hasn't mastered. It sounds like she has a cold when she does this.

Her nuanced soft yet powerful vocal is not for me.

If I wanted a coffee house like singing, I go to Norah Johnes full on.

If I wanted a satisfying powerful vocal, there are many other artists who are great at that.

I wasn't trying to compare them. Simply saying that requiring more than one range for a great vocalist is horseshit.

Amazing singing. Maybe the 80's still qualify as the worst gen of music ever. I was worried that the new gen might replace it as the worst but Adele saved them.

The song was inspired by a broken relationship of hers, and lyrically it speaks of Adele coming to terms with... summarizes the now defunct relationship that the record is all about.[2] Adele has openly discussed the genesis of it saying, "Well, I wrote that song because I was exhausted from being such a bitch, with 'Rolling in the Deep' or 'Rumour Has It' ... I was really emotionally drained from the way I was portraying him, because even though I'm very bitter and regret some parts of it, he's still the most important person that's ever been in my life, and 'Someone Like You,' I had to write it to feel OK with myself and OK with the two years I spent with him. And when I did it, I felt so freed."
