Address bar disappeared

We use the address bar on the task bar (right click on the taskbar - toolbars - address bar). With no reasoning, the address bar has disappeared. It is listed there but when I click on it, it's not selected (no check mark) or deselected for that matter. One other thing that also coincided with the address bar disappearing is the history from the run command. Normally it retains a history of different things that have been typed in. Everytime the computer is restarted the history is reset. I am using XP Pro.

Any ideas on how or why this is happening and how I fix it?

I use XP Pro, and I can't find any such tool bar option. Could it be associated or installed with some mailware you use that I don't?

I do have an Address Bar in IE, but that is not accessed via the Taskbar Toolbar options.

It's in Vista, not sure about XP. I don't know how to fix it though.

It could be installed from MS Office. I'm not sure where it came from :^P
 
Yeah I'm sure it's not scrunched up against the edge. That's what I thought originally happened. I tried everything to find it. I stretched out the taskbar to make it wider, I thought maybe something had pushed it off. But I did get an answer in another forum that I use. I was told that SP 3 removes the Address Bar as an option. Kinda sucks, its really nice as a shortcut into IE.

For those that can't find it, if you right click on the taskbar, then go to toolbars, then click Address Bar it will put an Address Bar (just like in IE) on the Taskbar to the right of the system clock, just have to strech it out a little. Like I said, it's a quick shortcut into IE.

OK - it is on my Vista machine - and it pops up OK. Your reference to SP3 is confusing - Vista only has SSP1 - XP has SP3. My Vista has SP1 installed - no problem with the Address Toolbar.
 
I think that is the answer. My XP Pro has SP3 installed. I got oput an old laptop that still had SP2 - no SP3. The Address Toolbar is present.

OK - suspicions confirmed. I just upgraded that laptop to SP3 and the Address bar is no longer there.

Try Bruce's 3rd party alternative.

This is a proven method of adding Taskbar Address Bar back to Windows XP
Service Pack 3.

1. First, obtain browseui.dll from older version of Windows XP
(RTM,SP1,SP2). If you do not have one, you can download it here:

2. Restart Windows XP in safe mode to avoid Windows File Protection.
(Press F8 during startup)

3. Replace browseui.dll at %systemroot%\system32\ (usually
