Addon Hard Drive

My wife has a four-year-old Micron Millenia MAX GS133 PC that she only uses for e-mail and surfing. It has a 30GB ATA Hard Drive that is getting fairly full. We are not ready to buy her a new PC as yet. Would we be able to add another similar HD, and if so how should it be connected so that we can get the best benifit of the addition? It apears that ATA HDs are cheap. I realize that this is practically a "throw-away" deal.

certainly, just buy a HD (probably get a good deal in the FS/FT forum), hook it to an unused connector on an IDE cable, make sure the jumper on the back is set to master or slave as appropriate, format and you're good to go.

That's an old chipset so hook the new HD on the seperate/other IDE cable from the 30gig HD. You could also get a large HD that performs well (ie.80Gig WD SE) and add a BIOS update or software and that way you could move/transfer it over when a new PC is in order.

If it has a USB port you could buy an external enclosure ($31 shipped here) and drive, or a prebuilt drive. Easier than cracking open the case and messing with cabling.

Otherwise an internal drive from Hot Deals or FS/FT forum. If over 30 GB you might need to update the motherboard BIOS like Sheriff said.
