It would be nice if a button could be added for wrapping URL tags around a link. Many users do not know how to do this manually and it would tidy a lot of posts up if users could put their chosen text over the link they want to direct users to. Example:

[ URL=http://www.website.com]chosen text[/URL]

Doesn't the editor already do this. You have to type out your word then high lick and click the add hyperlink button.

The radio button with the world and link icon is what he means, between the text changing ones and the ones for pictures and quote tags.

That doesn't achieve what I'm suggesting though. That simply underlines and adds a clickable hyperlink to whatever text is entered, but the link is still typed out in its entirety, like http://www.bbc.co.uk.

What I am suggesting is the ability to do this instead so it is a lot less cluttered.

When you click on the "insert link" & paste the link you want into the provided box, click "OK" & you end up with this
[ URL=http://www.website.com]chosen text[/URL]

where the "chosen text" portion is already hi-lighted for you to type in whatever you want. No need for another button.

Yes you are correct. If you switch the editor to the code mode with the white background and use the insert link button it does do that.

I still think this could be made clearer to users as I didn't know it was there and neither do a lot of people because most people post a full link in their posts.

Enabling this for the standard editor mode would be a nice idea.

Most VB forums implement this in a different way. You click on insert link, enter the link, another dialog comes up with "insert text", you insert the text and job done.

Just type the word/phrase, highlight, click "insert link" button. Not that hard.
