Adding online shopping to a website

A friend of mine is making a website and wants to sell stuff on it (jewelery, etc.). What's the best way to go about this?

I did a quick search and found lots of software, etc. that allows this, but I was wondering if there is an easier way, for example a 3rd party website that acts as the storefront so all my friend's site does is have the pictures, prices, etc.?

If anyone has any suggestions or experiences that would be great.

The absolute easiest way would probably be to use something like the Yahoo Merchant Solutions site. I have no experience with it, nor sites like it, but I believe they act as the "storefront" and you provide the content to sell items. They handle all the back end transaction stuff for I'm guessing some % of the profit.
