I have a 500gb drive divided into three partitions.

Partitions:
1-XP (C)
2-Vista (D)
3-Combined program files (G)

I'm adding another drive(Raptor) to the mix and I want to split it in two and move both OS's to it.
After I do this what are the next steps I need to take to get the OS's to point to the correct program files drive?

Is it as easy as booting into safe mode and reassigning drive letters?

Personally, I would keep XP and it's programs on ONE drive and put Vista and all it's programs on the other drive.

Another vote for this plan

BTW, Transfer between drives is faster than between partitions on the same drive.

BTW 2.0, You don't need to be in safe mode to reasign drive letters.

Format and reload, brother.
XP should be your first reload on "C:"... Vista after that.

No reason to. Everything is perfect and the system is blazing fast.
I'm sure somebody here has the knowledge.

They may be running fine, but you want both your OS moved to a different drive, yet still have the apps registered on a different drive.

Post in the Operating System forum and see if you get any better plan than "reload".

eeerm no. Why take the novices way out? It's not necessary to reinstall the entire OS and fifty applications.

Seems like you already have it figured out. Just copy each partition's contents intact to their new partitions and use Disk Management (access through Control Panel/Adminstrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage) to reassign drive letters to that each partition retains the correct designation for your registry/links/shortcut. Then reboot and make sure your BIOS is changed to recognise the Raptor as your new primary boot (C: ) drive.

Clone the first two partitions (C: and D:?) to the Raptor intact, then nuke them from orbit on the 500gb drive, expand the 500gb's data partition to cover the whole drive, then use drive management to make sure it's G: after booting off the Raptor.

Edit: Hit up the Software forums to find what you need to do this, unless you have purchased something like Acronis or Partition Magic.

I just woke up and my brain wasn't functioning yet so I was sitting here thinking "what the heck does nuke from orbit mean?!
Is that some new app I haven't heard of?

Ok I've had my coffee and the brain cells are firing now.

That sounds about right...

Thanks all. :)
