It is a mixture of herbs like salt and paprika and more. It makes the fries very tasty indeed.

I have been observing that black pepper seems to keep black flies off the food when dining out of doors. Keep this in mind as we enter the season of perfect picnic weather and report your findings.

don't like salt added to stuff. a decent sprinkling over pepper however is very tasty.

Salt (or some form of salt) is a must when cooking but I don't like adding it afterwards.

It's kinda crazy how expensive spices are. I never realized this until after I started cooking for myself all the time.

On the black pepper subject... Who has a really great pepper mill? I really love course-ground pepper, but haven't found a mill that gives me consistent grinding.

Right now I have this Old Thompson Imperial:

Its problem is that it gives me course grinds for a few turns, then becomes finer. I think the problem is that the screw adjustment on top tightens down as you turn the mill top. It also seems to get clogged by the grinds. When I loosen the knob I have to knock the fine pepper out of the grinding teeth to get back to course.

I used to have this one from Cole & Mason. The nice thing about it was that since it sat "upside down", you didn't get pepper all over everything. But it also wasn't that great for doing course grinding. Ultimately, the top and bottom halves separated, with no way to fix it.
