I have an XFX 7970 Core Edition (product link) to which I'd like to add GOP support for Windows 8 fast boot and secure boot.
Googling around, I found a forum discussing doing just such a thing, by taking the video bios of a card with GOP support and copying the UEFI partition to the corresponding location of the one of a card without.
The procedure is explained in more detail here.
The issue I am facing is that I do not know which GOP enabled video bios to use as a source: as my card has stock voltages (925Mhz core frequency and 1375Mhz memory frequency), can I assume it is going to be compatible with a reference board video bios? There are warnings about XFX having come up with a different revision of the board to cut costs, and my card fits the description - the single DVI connector is purple.
So I guess the question becomes, how specific is the video bios to a given card? Would I be risking bricking my 7970 if I were to use the UEFI part of a reference card's video bios to mod mine?
I have posted in the original thread with a few more details about the card but received no answer so far; does anyone here have any experience attempting something similar?
