adding AT power supply

Hi,
a while back, I had seen a thread descibing how to add an old AT power supply to your ATX one( or use the AT ps to power your fans). Basically, you had to put a resistor between two of the pins. I tried to search but couldn't get anything.
please tell me how to do it or point me to that thread,....

Well. I used to run dual PS (one at, one atx) when i had my big phatty server.

here is how i did it:

use the ATX ps to power the mobo/HDDs

then i set the AT ps at the bottom of the case (yes, just laying in there, there was room for it in my big tower). and grounded the swithc and screwed it in the case sticking out eh back (through a com port opening that it had, but really any hole big enough will do)

then, i plugged it in, and had the power cord just running out the side through a bent area that i made with a loc-tite pliers.

then, when i went to power the system up, i turned on the at, then the atx ps (the at powered all my fans, and my CDROM drives)

I didnt need to do any special grounding of the ps, and having it just lay there was fine for it (300W at ps).

just be sure not to block any of the vents on the ps unit.. it still needs to breath.


ALTERNATELY, you CAN mount the at ps in a dual ps case like a normal ps, and have it power the fans that way

just to clerify, no, the at ps doesnt need to be plugged into the mobo for it to work, just zip-tie those little mobo connectors up and forget about them
