Adding another 1gb?

Hi,
I have 1gb of Corsair Value Select ram, and am thinking of getting another 1gb. I am running the stuff at ddr333 since I am OCing my processor and have the HT at 250x4. I believe the memory is therefore running at 208 mhz (I believe that is what the bios said). It is at 1T, and auto everything else (which I think is 2.5-3-3-7). Can I just buy another 1gb of the corsair and be fine, or may I have issues if I don't go with 2 1gb sticks? I am simply doing this because I am having hiccups in some games and am hoping this might be the cause...

If the hiccups in your games involve your computer freezing, then you may want to reconsider portions of your OC. Also, if you add another stick, it's going to have slightly different tolerances than your last one and you might end up having to start over on your OC anyway. But for 2gigs in a gaming rig, it's worth it.

No freezes. The computer just has little pauses in it, which seems strange on a rig that scored 10100 in 3dmark05. Games are ran at 1280x1024 and never have soft shadows enabled.

I don't think it's that strange really. Your GPU setup has awesome power, but your memory provides a different function in that it has a whole lot of data to keep track of, and if it becomes full then it starts using the page file on the HDD which will make the game stuttery.

I went from 2x512 to 2x1gb and FEAR stopped stuttering altogether and now is like butter. That's with soft shadows, aa 2X, all other settings maxed.

Then I really should do the upgrade. Realistically, should I replace the 2 512s with 2 1gbs or just add 2 more 512s?
Thanks.

And if 2 1gb is the way to go, if anyone knows of any good deals going on right now?

No, with your rig if you put in 4 X 512 you could run into stability issues, it could clock the ram down to 333, and/or you will run at 2T. Go with 2 X 1GB if you have the money.

QFT.

I picked up my Patriot for $190 on newegg with a $55 rebate. I think it's a good deal, as I clocked them up to 233mhz at 1:1, maintained 2-3-2-6 up to 220mhz, and achieved the OC in my sig all for $140. There's also the OCZ Plat DDR400, but folks say that doesn't overclock much at all. The G.Skill is supposed to OC pretty well, although I'm not sure how much it is.

Anyhow, I highly recommend the Patriot. I've been very happy.
