Adding additional search engines - FF 3.6.13

I just did a reformat and was configuring FF how I like it when I came across this. When trying to add additional search engines to the search bar it says, "This search engine isn't supported by Firefox and can't be installed." Almost every single one I have tried to add says this. Did a recent update break adding these additional engines? In particular, the ones I really would like to add are IMDB and Merriam Webster.

Not sure if it's the current FF version that broke your search bar, but I remembered relying on the Add to Search Bar firefox add-on because the native firefox search bar wouldn't work with some sites.

I eventually stopped using the search bar altogether and now I only use the firefox's native add a keyword search method instead.
