I need to add a usb card to an old atrend 5030 (430tx) motherboard. It only has pci 2.1, but it seems all the usb 2.0 cards at newegg are pci 2.2. Can you help me find a cheap usb 2.0 pci 2.1 card? It will be used for downloading pictures from a digital camera.

Orange Micro and Belkin can do what you want plus most 2.2 complint cards are 2.1 backward compatible

Can I just point out that you need at least Windows 98 second edition in order to get third-party USB 2 drivers for the card.

Actually I put in 1 Koutech USB2.0 card that worked with Windows 95 (4.00.950 B with USB Supplement)

So most 2.2 are 2.1 compatible, maybe I should try one of the cheaper usb 2.0 pci 2.2 cards then. The computer will be running Win 98SE so that shouldn't be a problem. The MB actually has usb headers on it, but I don't have a usb back plate to connect to it.

my question to you is did you get the enhanced controller working or were you just using USB 1.1 as I am unaware of any manufacturer providing USB 2 drivers for anything below Windows 98 second edition.

Good point as I really don't remember bacillus but Here's the Card I used...since they have upgraded tp XP so maybe just OHCI just installed and 95 didn't recognize EHCI...
I see so little of 95 anymore ;)

I am pretty sure this old MB does have usb 2.0 headers only 1.1 headers, besides where do buy usb back plates at? LED you said you where using a Koutech card in 95 I assume then it was an old MB to. Do you know what MB or what spec the PCI slots were?

It was a Shuttle ...I have an Epox 8K5A3+ in 1 Machine that I think has the same chipset (VIA266+) and i has USB2.0 on the Mobo. I've switched back plates from another Mobo... should work fine as long as the Pins match or contact Epox in your case

It is not for the Epox board in my sig. It is for a very old Atrend 5030 (430tx) motherboard.
