I have recently added a Lexmark X73 mulitfunction device(Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax) to my PC. Even when its idle its showing around 30-40 % CPU utilisation under Win98 SE . Can anyone help me out how to resolve this?

1Ghz Athlon
512 MB SDRAM
Chaintech MoBo Via Kt133A
ASUS Geforce3 Ti200 Deluxe
Lexmark X73 MFD
Videologic Sonic fury
Windows 98 SE

Probably can't help - just confirm what I see on my wife's computer. She has a brother MFC4550 and it has always been tough on performance. But uprgrading her to Windows 2000 seemed to help a lot.

She actually uses the hardware fax, hardware copier, and printer. She doesn't scan or software fax. You might want to look at what you're using and turn off some of the other features, if that's possible. Maybe adjusting your parallel port settings and/or a bidirectional cable might help, too.
