Looks like a nice job on the switch and leds. But why are you driving around brewing coffee?

Way to make it 10 times more complicated than it needs to be...

But cheers nonetheless :)

well i wanted to keep it under the hood to keep the battery wires as short as possible.
and yet i wanted it to look as professional as i could do it.

Why does it matter how close it is to the battery? You still have the same amount of wire running to get the outlet's where they're supposed to be, the inverter is just at a different point along that length. I'd have just stuck it under the passenger seat. But that's just me. :)

actually, he's got a point...it's a small effect, but you'll have a lot more line losses if you make the DC cables long and the AC cables short. Which means you have to run really thick wire to compensate. This way the thick (DC) wires are short, and the thinner, cheaper AC wires are long.

the reason is because at 12 Volts there is way more amps which means lots of resistance and heat. so the longer the wire the more the connections heat up. and i didnt want to run a huge wire thru the truck.
with 110 volts there is much less resistance per foot of wire.

i had my old 5000 watt inverter in the truck before and the safety circuits welded themselves open so it wouldnt shut off.
i had onboard compressor for nail guns and stuff and the inverter shot a flame out about 5 feet inside my truck.
even with this baby one im still installing a fire extinguisher, just to be safe, and you'll see when im done it will also be installed with nothing flammable around it in case it does go.
under the seat is probably fine for small units and i know im going overboard with the fire protection, but i am nuts like that anyways. lol

Maybe I'll do that with my car. I have an AC invertor that is a pain to deal with. Also, I have to unplug the radar detector to use it, and those Y adapters are too clunky.

What happens when you run through a mud puddle?
Do you do any 4 wheeling?
Your engine compartment gets weather sometimes...?

well its quite protected and it would pretty much take a severe flood ing to get it wet. at that point my air filter would also be very wet and i would have bigger issues.
i dont go mudding in the truck but i do drive it across states.

i don't know, you're mounting it right next to the edge of the hood. rain goes through those cracks, you know.

not on the inside wall though, it also has the washers that hold it about 1/8 inch off the wall.
but the hood has the drip edge on the fender.
