Adderall addiction?

So, I have a friend who just told me she has been hooked on Adderall for years, since she was in college. I don't know enough about it, I always thought it was like pot and not really a big deal. However, from what she has told me it sounds like it really messes up your mood while you're not on it.

So, what options does she have? Google talks about going to a doctor to try and get a smaller dose and try to ween off, other sites talk about going cold turkey... So, any support group, organization that might help on this?

Thanks,

I've never felt like I was addicted. I definitely become a REAL smart ass when I dont take it though. I am extremely quick on my feet to make remarks. Like my mouth says things I haven't even thought of yet.

EDIT: I have a presciption

Is she snorting it or just taking it in pill form?

All the people I know that are addicted snort it.

Get her help before she starts consistantly snorting it.

Some friends are prescribed it and feel off without it, but they could stop if they wanted to.

The people that have gone on to snort are the ones that are physically and mentally a mess without it, and have started getting into some other hard drugs.

If she ever blows her nose and it's blue, she's got a problem.

If she blows her nose and it's red or peach she has an even worse problem. (Blue 10mg, Peach 20mg, red 30mg)

A lot of my friends were hooked on it during high school, and some still are.

It's an amphetamine (speed), so when you're on it, you feel really great an anxious to do anything.

Quitting it would be like quitting any other addiction. If she is having a very serious problem, she should consider going to AA.

Wrong:
XR (Extended Release): Orange.
Regular: Blue.

XR lasts for 6-12 hours, regular lasts for 3-6.

Blue (regular) ones look like any other solid pill. The XR pills are capsules.

Adderall is an amphetamine (speed) just like meth. They are quite a powerful group of drugs, and are not like pot in the slightest.

I have done many of these drugs and I can tell you withdrawal/comedowns are generally not pleasant, especially if you took a high dose and stayed awake for a long time there can be quite serious mood alteration - think grown men randomly crying.

Just because she isn't snorting it constantly doesn't mean she isn't hooked though.

When we took it all the time, we would usually pop a couple before going out, then do a few lines while we were partying.

It's not wrong the regular adderall comes in three doses 10,20, and 30.
And the regular lasts longer than 6 hours, 8 hours in my case.

Yeah, it can last a while if your body isn't used to it. The XR goes for a LONG time though. If you ever take it, you will feel a "time release" every hour or so, when all the drugs hit your body.
I'm not sure about the color thing... I've never seen any regular adderall pill that wasn't blue.

Edit: The dosage doesn't have anything to do with how long it lasts... thats just how much is going in you.
I think you may be wrong about the colors.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that, in my college the big drugs were pot, x, and acid. Seems like the younger kids are into Adderall and other prescriptions drugs that were not popular during my time.

The hell have they been putting in that stuff since I took?

Nothing different. They are amphetamine salts. I love popping them before an all-nighter studying, nothing can keep me on task like adderall

Here are my concerns; if she really had ADD or ADHD and her doctor has legally prescribed her this medication, then she shouldn't be addicted. The reason I say this is because they say if you really need Adderall, it won't effect. If you really don't have a problem with ADD or ADHD, then it reacts like speed or an "upper." There is a guy that lives in my dorm hall that takes Adderall without prescription because it acts as a form of speed for him.

In conclusion, it concerns me that your friend feels addicted. Unless the doctor's dosage is way too much, then the Adderall should be chemically balancing your friend, giving her a sense of normality. If the dosage is too much, or she really doesn't need the medication, she may be expierencing this "speed" which is causing her to be addicted.

Just my .02

Amphetamines are not to be taken lightly. They can be physically addicting if used regularly. Many people get very pleasant effects from the increased dopamine in the brain. Personally, I experience a somewhat euphoric high on Adderall. I also become more outgoing and talkative (I'm usually pretty shy). There are some unpleasant effects that keep me from taking it regularly, but it's easy to see how someone might get dependent on the psychological effects. People without ADD should be careful if using Adderall solely for its mood enhancement or social effects.

Were you prescribed it? People who actually need it are not affected in the same way.

Or maybe you didn't take enough? We would smoke around 0.1 or 0.2 of a gram of meth each, plus alcohol, cannabis, etc, maybe ecstasy or LSD if there was a party. That'll get you high...

I had it on prescription which is why I've never really gotten the whole Ritalin/Adderall abuse thing. The worst the meds did for me was suppress my midday apetite a little, but I made up for it at dinner.
