Added new memory

Added in a new stick of Corsair ValueSelect memory, same thing I've been running for 3+ years. System booted up, but was extremely slow. Opened outlook and IE7, outlook crashed, then IE, then got the BSOD. Tried it again, same thing. Powered down, took the new stick out figuring it was bad, put the old stick back into dimm slot 1, booted. Same thing happened again. Powered down, video card had come unseated. Reset it, booted up, same thing. Tried it again with both sticks, new memory in slot 1, old one in slot 2, BSOD yet again. Any suggestions? I'm fine with the new stick possibly being bad, I can return that, but why won't the system run properly with just the old stick? It's been perfectly fine as I said for 3+ years.
 
Take the original stick out, put it back in again. Make sure it is plugged in properly - that ole DDR can be a bit stiff sometimes.

If you still have the same prob, run memtest - can dl for free - need to burn the iso image to cd, or you can get a floppy image. Run it overnight and see what errors you get.

Do the same with the new stick if there are no errors on the original.

Most importantly, are you sure you haven't slightly dislodged a drive cable or molex somewhere, or even a pci card may have been nudged.
 
I'll try running memtest after I get home tonight. I'm just hoping the memory is actually the same thing. They both say VS512MB400, but the new stick is a little wider than the old one. I made sure they were both seated properly when I tried them, both together and then the old one by itself, so I don't think that's it. As I mentioned, the vid card did become unseated at one point, but I fixed that. I'll check the cables and such to make sure nothing else came loose. What is molex - I've never heard that one before.
 
are you absolutely sure they are the same model number? if this a brand name pc, I'll need the make and model. if this is a custom built one, I'll need the make and model of motherboard.
 
Motherboard is an MSI 7191. Both sticks have a sticker on them with VS512MB400. I'll have to wait until after work to check any other markings. There is a chance they may be different despite the VS moniker since they are a couple of years apart.

If the molex connector that was going to your hardrive was dissconnected, then yes your computer would not have booted up

I'll check tonight, and maybe take a pic of both sticks and post them up so you can see them yourself.
 
call me out? this isn't some HS BS conversation, if you can not handle a simple courtesy acknowledgement to someone making a statement, then you need therapy.

Stop the stupid bickering.

Anyway, I've determined the memory isn't the problem. My rig will read that I now have a gig of ram, so that's not it. Please reference this thread for the new issue that I'm having.
