Added memory chip, now 3D video crashed!

I added another 256 mb of the same Kingston memory that I have and now my 3D crashes. I have a Hercules Prophet 4500 and after adding the additional stick of memory the 3D crashed when I start any 3D application. Removed the new stick and everything is fine.

Do I need to configure something in the BIOS or is this stick no good?

what were you running? pc133? cas 2 or 3? may just not work at what the other one does. i had an epox slot a mobo that was finicky. both sticks were pc 133 cl3, but would only run at pc100 for some reason :(

some mobo are very finicky when you install more than 1 stick of ram. In the bios you will see an option about CPu Drive Strangth. Make sure it is set to the highest.

well, back then i had the same exact problem. I threw in another 128 stick of kingston ram and my games would more or less crash within 30 mins. After some testing, and stick swapping, i found out that both sticks were fine. It's just that they didn't like to work with each other for some reason. Soo, i swapped out BOTH of them and bought crucial.

erikiksaz,

I think that your right about this Kingston. It looks like this has to be a memory problem. I may call Kingstons 800 support line on Monday. I think this is the last time I use Kingston memory though!

That's impossible.
You cannot run PC133 memory in an Athlon 1.4 GHz machine!
It takes PC2100 memory (which runs at 133 MHz - or 266 MHz DDR, but that not PC133).

Why do you say it can't take PC133? There are KT133 and KT133A chipsets out there, and they support a 1.4 chip.

Wow I fixed the problem without changing the Kingston chips!

Had to get the 4 in 1 AGP driver update for the VIA chipset off the net. Loaded it up and now everything is working great in the 3D video department. ;)
