Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro.

Playing around with it, seems tack sharp so far.

Curious if anyone has any positive/negative experiences with this lens.

heh, wouldn't you want to ask that question before getting the lens? :)

No, I'm not looking for opinions whether I should buy it or not. I'm happy with it. I've read many online reviews and it seems most people like it. I'm just curious what experiences people here have had with it.

What are you going to use the lens for? I'm just curious because I've read how many people find even 100mm Macro lenses too short for some macro work (insects), though I enjoy using mine (Minolta 100mm f/2.8). I don't have any experience with a 50mm Macro.

Would you be doing macro or maybe portrait?

Mostly product photography in studio.

Ok, that makes sense then. Thanks. :)

Just ordered this lens too. I was surprised how good the reviews were, and that it's a great option for someone who wants a 1:1 macro and a sharp normal lens (usually you get one or the other).

Sold my Nikon nifty-fifty. Sigma should be here in a week or two.

Make sure to order a 72mm lens cap so that you don't have to take off the hood to put the lens away. The hood filter size is 72mm.

I owned one but sold it. I would say it would be good for product photography... but doing any kind of macro work outside... it was way too short. Fun little lens though for the price.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but I'm curious what your experience with this lens is like. I have found it to be a fantastic lens, not just for macro. Underrated, if you ask me.

The Sigma was pin sharp; I ended up using it more as a standard/portrait lens than a macro lens, simply because the focal length was too short for macro.

I ended up getting a Nikkor 105VR for macro work.

Sigma makes absolutely brilliant macro lenses. I owned a 150mm f/2.8 from them and wouldn't hesitate to say that I enjoyed using it more than Canon telephotos that cost 2-3x as much. No, it didn't focus as fast, but the image quality was damn near magical.
