Question Add up my components, I have 288 watts if I go with an Intel i5 12600F!

My power supply unit is 300 watts! The i5 11600F CPU’s TDP is 125W. Should I buy the on sale CPU?

Never mind decide to stick with the 65 watt CPUs. I currently consume only 258Ws even adding in USBs, fans, etc…

Based on your other thread here, that PSU won't work with an aftermarket motherboard.

Based on the pictures of the power supply, I can't tell if it uses a standard 24 pin ATX motherboard connection , but I can see it only has one 4-pin EPS connector, and most aftermarket motherboards require at least two 4-pin EPS connectors. It also only has one SATA connector, so that power supply is pretty limited with options.

I'm not sure why you would want to replace the motherboard and CPU to only go from 11th gen to 12th gen Intel CPU in a Lenovo prebuilt.

The one with the 280 PSU was a much earlier Lenovo M58 sff that was just sitting around. I just wanted to see if I could get a itx or micro atx to work and the options to upgrade the psu needed to be address to.

Just waiting for the 4th to decide on upgrade my ThinkStation sff or buy a new Alder Lake PC.

If I take out my 1050 TI video card in my upgrade i5 Alder Lake 12600K and use the onboard video UHD 770 only, I think I can get by with my 300W PSU. LOL! Yes!

It will be much cooler too!:)

What aftermarket 300w PSU is going to have more than one EPS 4-pin connector to power that motherboard and CPU?

OEM boards can be manufactured to only have one EPS connection for lower wattage CPUs, but that 12600k won't be one of them.

It seems like you are absolutely pinging off of the walls for Intel's 12th generation products, but before you drop all that money, you should look and see if components like your current PSU will work.

Anyways, that's my last comment I'll make concerning your upgrade plans. Sometimes people just have to learn from trying to build.

my current Lenovo P300 has an aftermarket Silencer 300W PSU inside of it! It is in a thread maybe 2-3+ years ago in this thread while I was shopping for a more powerful PSU for my 1050 ti card.

It took a while to find the thread but here it is shown below:

I learned it already years ago! :)

Wow, Newegg's power supply calculator is pretty slick. I always wondered how close I was to overloading the 450W power supply on my old Dell XPS system by upgrading the RAM and the GPU to a GeForce 1060. Not even close, it turns out :)

Thinking of a brand new 12th gen Alder Lake with designer style PC case or another P300 SFF case now! LOL! I decided that I need a PC and do not want to fool around and disable my 100% working fine PC just to do upgrades! Why face wrecking a wonderful PC? The adage: "Do fix what not broken" applies here.

If you're going to try building something from scratch, I'd try doing an AMD Ryzen 5000 series based gaming rig instead. See how the "other half" works :)

I am kind of scare to go with gen3 Ryzen 7 5700G CPU. From my research, both the B550 and X570 chipsets are unstable. The X570S looks promising but it only available in ATX not matx nor itx. The X570 has a tiny fan on the chipset of the motherboards that produce a very high pitch sound too. What AMD motherboard chipset do you favor for the gen 3 Ryzen cpu?

I use an MSI B550 board with my Ryzen 3700X and it's been rock solid stable for a year now.

Outside of random user posts/trolling, what legitimate sources/links have you read that state those chipsets are "unstable"?

If you want to go Intel, just go Intel.
Nothing but motherboard owners posting their experiences. Since all reviewers want access to motherboard OEM for their freebie review products train to continue on, they are not going to spill the "beans" until some where down the line after sales have peaked.

You seem to know this too! No suggestion are offered on motherboard recommendations. I get it! Pride is a very powerful thing to give up!

LOL

My Asus Prime X570-P is the most stable and quietest board I have ever seen.

The only thing I have to give up is responding to nonsense posts from users who obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

I gave you the opportunity to link to your claims, but seeing your response, I'm not taking your bait.

I have decided to wait till January-February 2022 to continue with my PC built! AMD will probably be countering Alder Lake and Intel will be releasing it's 65W CPUs and probably will announce the 35W CPU too! Nvidia and AMD will be releasing some new lower end graphics card to $120-$180.00. Intel is rumor to be announcing their line of graphics cards too! AMD motherboard makers will try to get more stable and full Gen 4 implementation maybe will a revise B550/B570 chipset for existing motherboards and/or maybe completely rewrite chipsets? Maybe intro to next generation AMD socket in January, new 3D cache architecture? I usually buy the previous generation since prices usually drop 30% across the board on components for the previous CPU and the previous CPU before that too.

Not going get caught up in the upgrade fever just yet!:)

the system specs are in my sig.

R5 3600
The R5 3600 still very powerful for it price point, equal to the 5600G I think. Waiting for AMD to drop prices during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Might go with the 5700G with Vega 8. Do not have to buy a separate graphics card? Intel UHR 770 is suppose to be the same performance as Vegas 8 too? 2400G with Vegas 11 inside is out of stock! Might jump on it if it ever get back in stock!

Vega 8 is decent but it is like a GTX 1030 or RX550 in performance.

2400G is ancient and not supported on 500 series boards. 3400G is better but also hard to get. The 5000G series are way better in performance than the earlier ones.

UHD 770 is better than UHD 750:

Yeah, if the 5700G which is Vega 8 drops in price to $255; I am all over it! Just have to be patient since AMD is going be releasing the Ryzen 6000 at the end of January. Either way; it going to drop. Hoping for Black Friday/CyberMonday price decrease. The 5700G is not that hot of a performance CPU since it has Vega 8 built-in to it! I think the starting point for Intel's UHR 770 is the i7 12700K. The i5 12600K gets the older UHR 750. If the i7 12700 comes down to $350; it a big buy for me! Doubt it but you never know! Intel wants to get back market share and that the easiest way to do it!
