Add/Remove Windows Components help

When I click Add/Remove Windows Components it starts up and goes through configuring components and finishes saying that I've finished setting up windows components without ever letting me do anything. This happens on my laptop and home pc both running XP Pro SP2. My desktop is a fresh install. I've never had this problem before and can't figure out how to fix it. Anyone ever had this problem?
