Add\Remove Program in XP Pro gone crazy

This problem has happened to me a few times now and it's very very annoying.

I don't know why it does this but when I go into the Add\Remove Program to try and find something to uninstall, I can see about a dozen programs and then there's nothing until I scroll almost all the way to the bottom to try and find the rest of my programs.

sometimes the free space inbetween the top portion and the bottom portion is all black, and sometimes it's all blue or white.

does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it???

Some program installs just do not behave properly.

The white-space can be due to a DISPLAY ICON having a negative number registered.

You can check by going to:

START \ RUN and type regedit

then go to Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Search through the entries, looking for the program that is ABOVE the white-space
in ADD\REMOVE programs.

Check the entry under the 'DisplayIcon' DATA listing.
If the number at the end is a Negative Number (ex: -0), edit the entry to remove the minus sign.

If that does not take care of the issue, scroll through the remaining entries and check for negative numbers
and remove them.

It works about 80% of the time.

The only other solution would be to Uninstall the APPLICATION that is above the white-space.

Oh thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂🙂

Removing the minus in front of the "0" didn't do the trick, but uninstalling the last APP did. Sure glad I like to read and ask questions.

It may benefit you to run Norton WinDoctor once in a while to clean up your registry of left-over entries.

We have a lot of problems with Norton products in my area with the local ISP that serves us. I've contacted Norton at least 20 times and have NEVER once received a reply from them.

But thanks for the help. 🙂
