And just what are your research credentials?

What are yours?

You reduce yourself to ad hominem remarks to conceal your capricious (and frivolous) behavior.

En garde!

I spit on your accusation!
I pee in your coffee!

I dont drink coffee.

I'm still trying to figure out what religious faith (or lack of it) has to do with ADD. Sounds like an unsupported assumption on the part of the OP. For example, I have no religious belief, yet I also most definitely do not have ADD.

A good spanking fixes that.

He is not pretending to disprove a medical problem, and you are, so I wonder who the burden of proof is on?

This is not for you to consider, for I am a Super Genious. Take my word for it.

contrived by those who wish to make a fast buck off weak minded individuals, particulary atheists

WTF???? Why bring your religious views into this?

How is the trolling thismorning? Catch anything?

Anyway, I partly agree with your viewpoint. I don't think that ADD is fake, but I do think that it is WAY over diagnosed.

We don't even know what "it" is, how are we supposed to reliably diagnose it? It's kinda a joke.

However, I do not agree with your overall sentiment.

Yeah, it is overpercribed because it is seen as a quick fix. A lot of the time the problem is the parents or it is situational. I do think that there are many cases that medicine can help. Oh, what the hell are you talking about with atheism?

Since you have no ADD and despise atheists, you are religious. I'm atheist and I don't have ADD so there is only one scenario left: I am your god. :Q

Uh... What exactly am I supposed to say to that?

You can go right ahead and think your viewpoint is the only one that matters, or that is correct.

The fact is, nearly everybody else disagrees with you. Including highly educated individuals that have nothing to do with Anandtech Off Topic. So it does not matter what you believe.

Carry on.

So what?

Did you even READ my post? Did I not say that ADD was WAY over diagnosed? Hello, McFly?

That doesen't mean that it isn't real. I think the problem is that we're making drugs and prescribing them to (children) before we really even understand the problem. We have theories, but thats about it.

How do you explain that a speed-like substance has a calming effect on the individuals that supposedly have this chemical imbalance or whatever it is caused from?

It is obvious that we are looking in the right direction, even if we don't see the forest for the trees.

You're the one that has been brainwashed into thinking so incredibly narrow mindedly.

But Eli,

We agree. Whats the problem here? We need to put and end to the psyciatric industry altogether. The brainwashing stops here!!

ADD is real.

But (imho) tagging a child with that term and throwing Ritalin at them is a crutch that is used all too often. It is a (relatively) easy way out to deal with a child that is not 100% perfect.

Many times (again, imho) poor parenting is to blame for kids who act out, desperate for attention. These days of kids being shoved into day care where they have to compete for attention, and hardly see their parents, doesn't help either.

You're right, and ADD is overprescribed, but I don't believe the fundamental idea behind it is wrong. I don't think the majority of people needs meds at all. They need to realize they don't do things as well as they could, and then start changing their behavior and lifestyle to combat their problem. It is just like any other medical/social/mental problem. You can't just fix it with a pill..

depends on if it's a blue pill or a red pill.

That is where we disagree. There is no "one size fits all". ADD diagnosis and drugs are not the answer for everyone, just as "hugs" are not the answer for everyone.

We need the psychiatric industry to provide a middle ground. We will learn from our mistakes.

None of this has anything to do with your religious inuendo.
