That illustrates my point perfectly: just because you've been prescribed Vicodin for a headache doesn't mean you don't have a headache, or that headaches don't exist.

There is a lot of overprescription of Ritalin, mostly because it aids in concentration for pretty much everyone. Some parents are lazy, and some think that if it works it must mean the kid has ADD. Drug companies aren't exactly in the mood to dissuade this idea, for obvious reasons. What people forget is that the only way to directly diagnose it is to track thought patterns; since there aren't any telepaths or machines that read minds around today we have to rely on the patient, and when the patient is a kid it's really hard to get "accurate measurements". To properly diagnose ADD in a child you need to first eliminate all the other possible causes.
