Adaware killed my computer...help!

Last night I ran adaware and then rebooted.

I now get the following 2 messages and then nnnoooooothing:

INVALID BOOT .INI FILE
BOOTING FROM C:\WINNT\

then new screen

FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT
BOOT.INI <WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL

then it just sits there!!!

....and here it was running so well...that darn adaware.

Any ideas? How do I reinstall a missing file if windows won't start?

If you can get in to safe mode, open up Ad-aware, click 'Open quarantine-list', then restore the appropriate file(s).

or better yet, get into safemode and reinstall those files from the windows cd or something. did you run lsp fix? BTW, if you restore them with adaware, run spybot

If it's just boot.ini, I think you can rebuild it if you boot off a Windows CD and go into recover console mode. From there, you can run bootcfg /rebuild. Google for exact details.
