I am currently renting a house that has a surround sound speaker system installed into the wall. There is a set of component audio jacks that come out of a keystone jack in the wall behind the TV. The house didn't come with a receiver so I thought I would pick one up from Best Buy. After I got home, I realized that they use a different speaker connector than the regular component audio that is in my wall.

The back of the receiver looks like the attached picture.

Is there any way to get an adapter that will connect component to this special connector? If not, what would be a good brand of receiver that would come with component inputs out of the box?

Sounds like they used wallplates with banana plugs in them, not too terribly unusual really. What you have there looks like it was meant to be used with speakers it came with for a HTIB. There's no way you're going to be able to use that receiver with the banana plugs that are setup nor is there any adapter available. Pretty much any receiver that's not packaged as a HTIB will work with this system though. You'll just have to crimp on banana plugs from the speaker cable that you hook up to the receiver's binding posts. Most folks on these forums tend to recommend either Onkyo, Denon or Yamaha. Which one though depends on your needs and budget.

We need more information. Can you post a pic of the wall jack and your make and model of receiver.

I have a feeling nsa is right but see attached for the jacks. The receiver is a Sony BDV-E280.

I also don't even know if these speakers work or not. I'm almost wondering if I should stick to the soundbar that I am currently using and exchange this HTIB for an xbox or something.

Yep, that's a set of banana plugins the red is for the positive terminal on a speaker channel with black for the negative. You aren't going to be able to use that receiver & speaker setup with those plugs. You could always exchange that HTIB for a better HTIB that will work with those plugs although the least expensive would be $400 from Best Buy and that's a Yamaha. I have nothing against them but personally Yamaha receivers tend to sound tonally bright to me. You could go to newegg and pick up the deal that they have on this Onkyo HTIB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882120182 for $249.99 which is the same price that Best Buy sold you your current Sony. The speakers that come with it aren't anything to write home about but they will work with banana plugs and they're at least as good (if not slightly better) than the speakers that came with your Sony. The receiver is leaps and bounds better than the Sony you have as well. Plus it'll work with whatever speakers you upgrade to in the future should you choose to do so.
