You can only buy one (1) per year and its NOT FOR RESALE (no *bay please), but its a darn good deal ($345 + shipping current best pricewatch at time of posting).

adaptecconnect.com

You gotta create an account and stuff, but it doesnt take too much thinking to figure out. With those cheetah x15's going for a decent price ($350~)...you could have 36gigs of practically the fastest raid0 array for around $900 <--- droooool :)

Theres damn good deals on 29160 cards there too, $156 for the 29160 and $147 for the 29160n I picked up one of the 29160's around a year ago.

Please adhere to these rules:

Im not sure on the specific differences between the 29160 and the 29160n, if i wasnt running out the door right now id take a sec and look it up for ya...but im sure they have the details on their website. I went with the 29160 for a specific reason (which i dont remember right now :) ) and it worked great under light load. 9.1gig wd enterprise 10k scsi160 and a 50pin plextor 12/10/32 cdrw.

the N version's a 32-bit pci (regular pci slot) card.
the non-n version's a 64-bit for server cases. it'll still work in a regular slot, but it won't go in 64 bit mode.

so, if they N version's cheaper, get it, you won't see a differenece in the performance of the two without a server board

29160n is 32 bit where as the 29160 is 64 bit, another internal connector and a different external connector.

The Adaptec Connect Channel Partner Program "is an opportunity for our valued partners (ie. resellers) to evaluate, test, demo.... " This is NOT a back-door purchasing program for the general public. Last time this was posted it was locked by the MODERATOR.

MikefromWA, thanks for the great deal. I just picked up the 3200S (64bit two channel Ultra160 RAID controller kit) for a measly $349. Retail on that puppy is $825. Now it's off to TheNerds.net to pick up my Seagate Cheetah X15!

I don't see any reason this thread should/would be locked dude. For those of us who do qualify this is a hot deal. Especially if these are full retail kits...which they prob are, I'm just waiting for my confirmation email so I can take a peek. SCSI just got a little more affordable...hopefully I'll have money for a 29160 soon :)

Damn. You can get a 39160 dual channel ultra/160 kit for $180. That's less than a lame 19160 kit on pricewatch! All I can say is wow. And I wish I had some extra cash. At least this doesn't look like a deal that is gonna go away.

Some of the non-RAID kits:
39160 - $180
29160 - $156
29160N - $147
19160 - $117 (lame, windows only)

I just got my 2100s ... how is RAID (stripe) gonna work on a single channel device?

I'm used to IDE, which requires separate channels ... at least on my promise and highpont cards, to get a striped array, you need to use the separate channels.

The 2100S is a big POS! Check our storagereview.com message boards, two drives striped are slower than one on a normal U160 controller. Nobody has been able to get more than 37MB/s out of this controller

OMG !!! I just received my new 2100s via the adaptec partner program ($200). Even at 55% of retail, based on the feedback, this card is overpriced.

I used to think Adaptec was the only way to go...until I found the ATTO SCSI cards, now these things rock!!

Check out this review that got me to switch, even has comparison data...double the performance of Adaptec!! wow...they updated the site since I last looked! ;)

ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D SCSI RAID Review

this guy gives a lot of good info on RAID and other things if you don't know what that is!! ;)
