Sorry for the stupid question.
How do I change the ID of this quantum atlas 10k ultra3 (U160)scsi drive? Its an lvd/se.
I have to use the adaptor for this drive, and I dont see any jumpers on the drive. When I connect it it doesnt recognize any drives cept the 2 cdrom/cdrw's.....
Thanks so much, still learning scsi...

Oh, this is an SCA drive isn't it?

No jumpers because it is hot swappable (SP).

I have no experience here. Have you tried the maxtor website support for manuals, FAQs, etc.?

You can set the id on the adapter but i don;t know exactly how the id's correspond to that particular adapter. Do you have any kind of manual for the adapter???

Does the drive have an 80 pin connector (SCA) or a 68 pin connector? Another way to ask is does it have the standard 4 pin HDD power connector on it? If not it is an 80 pin hot swap drive intended to plug to a backplane. There are adapters available which convert the 80 to 68. The adapters have the switches/jumpers to let you set the id and some also have terminators.

EDIT: The adapter I used was made by "DataMate" DM5000-8068-40

It has the adapter to change it from an 80 to 68pin. on the adapter there are 9 sets of 2 pins for a jumper but I cant tell who manufactored the adapter.

I wonder if your problem is that you don't have a terminator at the end of the cable on which you have the hdd. in my experience, usually the lvd drives are sent out without being jumpered, corresponding to ID0.

I got it to id 1 by way of the adapter. It only read it when I set it to id 1. Now it reads everything in scsi bios but it doesnt show up in WIN2k.
Do I have to format it to show up in win2k? I did a disk media verify check......

Do you see any numbers on either side of the PCB of the adapter? Perhaps they start with "DM" indicating that it is a datamate part. The adapter I have has 8 pin pairs.... yours has 1 more so its not the same....

ID7 the highest priority on the scsi bus should be assigned to the scsi card!

CKY, have you actively terminated the scsi cable at the last connector on the cable??
