Devolving into tribal bands of roaming predators does not appeal to me.

Agreed, but just when you are amazed at the level of sophistication humans have reached, really base behavior seems to get worse. We're better than this.

I always get bashed for saying this, but the common thread is arms availability. It's easy to hate/be territorial/intimidate/be crazy/feel vengeful/feel afraid/..., but when you add a gun the results are unpredictable at best. Also what always seems to happen when the gun meets deep divisions?

Edit: The 2nd Amendment's 'success' at the Bundy ranch certainly helped.

People are such fucking idiots. The pen is mightier than the sword right? If you want change, organize and do it the right way, the more powerful way, VOTE. Fucking vote. Vote people out of office, gather signatures for a recall. VOTE. Stop trying to make a political point with guns. Organize and make a stronger point with your vote. If politicians start losing their job because they are be held accountable by their constituents, then they are going to start getting their shit straight. VOTE everyone out of office, recall them all if you want, but don't expect change to come in the form of a political stunt. VOTE.

To anyone who thinks this is a good idea. Would 1000 armed and loaded Muslims marching to Congress to support our troops be appropriate?

Or fail to notice that this thread is a year old, and the plans were scrapped long before 7/4/2013

yes but what they are talking about is his recent activity, ie to say the killings of cops is justifiable.

This guys hasn't been paying attention at gun shows, has he?

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/20...ow-safety-checkpoint-on-gun-appreciation-day/

In the 1,000 people he wants to gather, there will be a few idiots who will shoot themselves and others by accident.

Also,.. why is this march happening? I don't recall reading anything about a siege on people's guns - why all the herp-a-derp??

edit: Ouch,.. this is old herp-a-derp; 05-06-2013. Herp-a-derps now rise from the dead.

See the quote in my signature. I've never seen anyone adequately defend themselves with a pen. Plenty of Middle Eastern leaders have tried it in the last few years, but none have succeeded.

Maybe that saying should be taken on a case by case basis. But at this point, in this country, people need to vote. Until the masses start voting, until we start making voting days holidays, and give more people more access to voting and stop limiting voting then violence will accomplish nothing. Ask specifically to our elected officials how they are going to make it so more Americans can vote, have more access and less headaches and less waiting in line. When they don't follow through, vote them out. When the American people start being able to vote and we do vote, well then we shouldn't even be considering violence.

Saudi Arabia would probably disagree with you on that one. Their sudden choice to airdrop a ton of money on their people after the Arab Spring got underway was not a coincidence.

The pen and the sword are complimentary weapons; you might be able to hang on for awhile with either one, but in the end over-reliance on one or the other makes you vulnerable. The Saudis took some steps to address the grievances of their population at the same time they cracked down on anyone who looked at them sideways.

The Pen is mightier then the sword, but the TV is mightier then the pen. We still control pens, they control TVs. Have you not paid attention in the last 20 years? If we get together and start voting politicians out they don't get their shit straight, they will pour more money into propaganda until we believe their shit. It is not the individual politicians that are the problem it is the parties that control them (and the non-politicians that control the parties).

Saudi Arabia lives solely by the pen and the petro-dollar. They have no military might to speak of. I never read anything about them air dropping money on their people. They instead infiltrated and neutralized all dissenters in the kingdom with a shocking degree of success. The Kingdom's intelligence service is one of their best assets though, and heavily augmented by our own.

I think that any reasonable understanding of 'the sword' would include arresting and imprisoning your dissenters. Insofar as an air drop goes, shortly after the Arab Spring got going they announced a $130 billion plan to produce jobs, housing, and other crap like that. With a national GDP of about $580 billion at the time we're talking about a jobs plan of over 20% of GDP.

So it's actually just as I said. They dropped a ton of cash on the people while cracking down on dissent. Pen and the sword!

I don't see how any reasonable person could interpret the work of the Saudi Mutaween as "the sword."
