Is is just me, or has Lavasoft not released a defenition update in quite a while? I was accustomed to 2 - 3 updates per week, yet my latest definition is from Sept. 19th, with no new ones since then. Any one else have this too?

Heh :), of course. I just prefer Ad-aware when I do my scans every few days or so; hence my concern for the lack of new defenitions.

All users? That's me!! :)
I remember that something like this happened with Spybot. When I got the definition file, it was much bigger than the others so I'm assuming that here was a lot on their plate at that time. Maybe the same thing is happening with Lavasoft...

Same here. I've been wondering what's up. Hoping they didn't discontinue their free software.

Well they had a bunch of false positives which they did fix in following days but maybe the lack of subsequent updates has sumfing to do with quality control.

I went to Lavasoft's download page for the update and extracted defs.zip to my C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal directory.

Now Ad-Aware SE reports the following, without the usual SE1R124 19.09.2006 reference number.
Definitions File Loaded:
Reference Number : EXPORT
Internal build : 153
File location : C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\defs.ref
File size : 794164 Bytes
Total size : 2571032 Bytes
Signature data size : 2522040 Bytes
Reference data size : 48480 Bytes
Signatures total : 69245
CSI Fingerprints total : 3913
CSI data size : 161385 Bytes

I think they're trying to force you to visit their lovely new website to update your software. :|

After about 5-6 attempts my Ad-Aware shows the new SE1R125 05.10.2006 ref file loaded. However since their new website is buggy and slow it answers the question as to why they are having file transfer issues. :p

In addition to Ad-Aware, for "deeper" defense download, install, update and run SpyCatcher Express (in safe mode if possible) - free spyware removal software =
http://www.tenebril.com/consumer/spyware/spycatcher-express.php ,
then shut down your pc and then restart it in SAFE MODE if possible = http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ts...sf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument******=sec_doc_nam
and then run the scan(s) and follow directions for healing any/all infections found, then disable system restore = http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm , then shut down your pc, and then restart your pc, and then re-enable system restore.

Does SpyCatcher Express have an option to disable itself from starting with Windows?

I use a wide variety of tools to clean compromised systems, but Spy Catcher is not one of them. I have seen it ranked reasonably well in some of the reviews, but you will rarely find any mention of it of the reputable forums (SWI, Bleeping, etc) or malware removal specialists recommending the use of Spy Catcher. In all honesty the ones that I link to in my sig will clean up most of the crap out there. What they don't clean can be removed manually. :)
