Acura TL or Infinite G35?

the TL has a better interior and a much better resale value, but the G35 sedan has a smoother ride and a better drivetrain. aren't there recalls concerning TL's transmission?

With $25K, you could get an '02 M3. I picked up my '01 at the end of last year for that much, and it had the engine replaced at the dealer in 2004 due to crank bearing failure. The weakness is only in the '01 and very early '02 production runs.

It's a damn blast to drive, especially in Sport mode.

The TL's with tranny recalls were 99 - 02 automatics or something like that. The last gen anyway. Stick with a manual, Honda 6-speeds are nice.

E39 M5 will stomp the aforementioned in performance and has enough luxury to satisfy. If you can swallow the maintanance costs, I bet it would be awesome. If you want something cheaper to maintain but still provide equal fun, take a look at the Pontiac GTO. You can find a low mileage one for well within your budget.

Why do people post in car threads without actual experience with said cars?

I'll never understand this. If you've owned said cars then my apologies.

I have not owned either, but can you honestly say that I have provided incorrect information?

Yes. You have no first hand knowledge of either of these cars with regards to performance or luxury or fun or maintenance.

The TL would be the best choice really. I had an 06 6spd and it was a great car. It was comfy, got good gas mileage and had enough power to propel itself along nicely.

I also have an 05 STi but they're both very different cars. Cross-shopping between them would be a nightmare since what one lacks the other has and vice-versa.

So which car did you prefer between the STi and TL?

Seriously? I can't make that comparison. The STi is 10000x times more fun to drive, there's no contest there. But they're such different cars that a comparison is a waste.

However, I did find myself gravitating to the TL for long trips. It also got a lot more use with the birth my daughter since it was much easier to get a car seat in and out of.

Also the fact that the TL had Navigation, and all the other creature comforts the STi didn't it made it a more practical everyday car. Though I wouldn't trust it in the snow, not on stock tires anyways.

My STi is also very far from stock which makes the comparison much more drastic. I enjoy(ed) both cars. I ended up trading up to an RDX though in the end just because it worked better as an all around vehicle for my wife and I.

That does not make it incorrect.

This is why car opinions should have a disclaimer.

*I have not driven these cars, I have not owned these cars, this my option based on what I read*

Here's my disclaimer: My opinion of the TL and G35, I've driven both but owned neither. I know 2 people who own G35s, 1 coupe, 1 sedan.

Both of the cars I drove were automatics. The Acura has a nicer interior. The materials feel like they are higher quality. The Acura navigation system is excellent. Not much low end torque. The horsepower numbers are equal to my old 99 Mustang, but the actual performance is not even close. I'd say that the G35 feels slightly more powerful, but still doesn't have incredible torque across all RPMs. The Acura engine is smooth and quiet, same goes for the G35 but slightly more noise subjectively.

I like the G35's more distinctive styling. The interior is a little more plasticy. Rear drive. The coupe looks great if that's an option.

Everything feels pretty solid in each car, both in terms of control feel and handling feel.

If you plan on keeping it till it dies, if all else is equal in your eyes, you should go for the G35 because you'll get one with lower miles for your $25k. Neither would be a bad choice though. The Acura salesman told me that around 30-32mpg on the highway is common. While each of my friends with G35s get around 25-26mpg on the highway, best case scenario.

Between the two, I'd go for the G35, especially if it's the coupe. As a sedan the TL is probably a slightly more practical car. I think the TL had a larger trunk due to being front drive. Neither is a bad car though, it's a close call, just pick the one you like better.
