Acura CL Scrapped: http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=89589

"Excerpt from Detroit News' National Briefs page:

TORRANCE, Calif. -- Honda Motor Co., Japan's second-biggest carmaker, is scrapping the Acura CL coupe after a drop in sales and is pricing the new Acura TSX sport sedan below rival models from Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG's BMW to boost the brand's average sales growth. The 2004 TSX went on sale Thursday for $26,490, Acura spokesman Matt Pearson said. The sports car costs at least $1,000 less than models Honda identified as its main competitors. CL coupe sales dropped 25 percent in March from the year before and posted a 35 percent decline in the first quarter. "

I'm sad to see the CL go, now Acura has no high end sports coupe :( It's cheapness and high price is what killed it :(

On a side note, it's goot to see the new TL. It reminds me of a larger TSX.

The pricing for the CL was ridiculous. Why would anybody want to pay for the CL when they could get the TL for almost the same price (well, maybe a couple of thousands more)... but you know what I mean...

Yeah... I never understood why it was styled so differently from the TL sedan... but then again, Honda styles their Accord coupe distinctly from the sedan as well.

I guess Honda's cutting losses and focusing their production toward the lower-end of the "luxury" spectrum.

But now we have no acura with a v6 that has a 6-speed manual as an option :(

I guess with the impending death of the NSX as we know it, 6speed + V6 seems unlikely unless they add it to the TL.

The Cl didn't sell because it was BORING. Bland styling and it offered nothing over its competition except honda reliability. At least the TSX looks good and I have a feeling it will look even better in person.

Honda needs to rethink their strategy in this department. If they really want to compete, they need a car that's has bold styling and moves like a bat out of hell. I think if they dropped their 260hp V6 into the TSX that'd be a step in the right direction.

pix don't work...

And I'm considering buying an old CL, so I can't say that I hate the styling. I love the rear end. :)

the new TL looks kinda plain for an expensive car. i prefer the design of the old CL with the slanted rear.

I think that the new TL looks kinda cool ... I like the new tailights (second pic). The front has an aggressive look ... I like it

honda sucks these days...i've only been in civics, but i gotta say my '98 civic lx sedan felt like it costed way more than my 2003 civic lx sedan...this new car just screams cheap. Hell, my sister's 2002 sentra gxe feels like it's worth so much more...

I've seen the TSX in person, and I wouldn't exactly call the styling groundbreaking. In fact, I was at an auto show with a bunch of friends and most of the non-car enthusiasts I was with would never have noticed it was a new model had I not pointed it out.

It looks pretty good (much better than the CL), but the styling is still not distinctive enough IMO.

the CL was an empty-nested baby boomer car... never really took off
