Acura RSX Type-S VS. Chevy Cobalt SS (Road&Track Sept. 2005)

One is an Acura and the other is a Chevy. Try testing them out again in two years when the acura is running fine and the Chevy is on the side of the road somewhere.

this isn't the 1980's, the current GM cars are very reliable

It's not the 80's and their cars still suck IMO.

for the sake of argument, doesn't that remain to be seen a few years down the line? I mean we don't know how reliable they really are until they're like 10 years old.

^^ Don't forget, when your Acura does break down, it's gonna be either a Ford or Chevy that comes to tow your ass to the garage.

meh, if the acura does have problem just call your roadside assistance and they'll take care of everything.

Loaner car, tow and everything.

but the point was that its going to be a Chevy or Ford tow truck towing the Acura away

Ok, so since the Chevy is more likely to break down much more often than the Acura, you'll be having a Ford of Chevy towing your car more often which sucks(although I disagree with your statement and agree with the one below it). 😉

I don't care who is towing the car, if it's MY car, I want the proven reliability of a Japanese car. Oh, and the whole thing is moot, because the whole discussion is that I'd pick the Acura so that it's much less likely I'll end up on the side of the road anyways. I'm not gonna pick a Chevy simply because if my car breaks down I'll have to have a 15 minute towing and it'll also likely be a Chevy. If I'm gonna have a car for years, I want something reliable.

That doesn't make any sense to me, I guess because I expected the RSX to win, so it didn't seem too out of the ordinary.

i don't get it

so what if a chevy breaks down and a chevy truck picks it up is that supposed to prove a point or something 😕

Or you can be a man and fix the car yourself.

<= surprised by how many people don't even know how to put on a spare tire.

We're not talking about spare tires here. All cars are equally likely to get a flat. That has nothing to do with the reliability of the car. Besides, whether or not you fix the car yourself has nothing to do with what we're talking about. The fact that you'd have to fix the car more often with a GM car than a Japanese car is what I'm referring to. Though I understand you just wanted to make a point about what you believe a real man is.
