ornery you are entitled to your love for large american cars. but i don't think the grand marquis, being designed mainly as a taxi/squad car, would have a better ride and less road noise for an avalon, which is designed for comfort and have an average buyer age of 60 or something.

i prefer some music from the engine/exhaust if i can afford to buy my very first car. the G35 or the S2000 or even a WRX comes to mind.

Ornery has gotta be smoking crack. The Avalon is about a quiet as a dead-man's casket.

Hey Ornery thinks that the Grand Marquis has a harsh ride. :p

He throws me for a loop :)

Avalon too loud
GM's ride to harsh
GM NOT BIG ENOUGH?? TOO CRAMPED??

Good lord :D

Does Infinity still produce the Q45? The balding guy on that car's old commercials used to piss me off royal.

The only thing the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic are good for is taking you from point A to point B and scaring the sh!t out of people by pretending you're a cop.

I drove a Crown Vic for a whole day a month or so ago and though it has size, it has poor acceleration, very boaty handling and the most spartan interior. Oh by the way, did I say it scares the crap out of speeders? Gotta love it when they slam the brakes when you pull up behind them. ;)

Veddy nice IMO. I too would like to see it with a manual tranny, but it ain't happening, and if I were a stockholder I'd probably have to agree with the decision..

well the V6 is confirmed for a manual tranny. also hte V8 & V6 also come with AWD, so thats a nice plus.

Where do you get your baloney from? The V6 and V8 will only come in Auto :( and there is no AWD available. Check www.nissannews.com and look for the Infiniti new lineup announcement

Go here...select Trim...you'll see AWD available.

I was wrong about it being available on the V8 model..so far its only on the V6 according to that site.

I've driven both in a "spirited fashen" (I love this "fun to drive" marketing lingo hype), and the Avalon ain't shlt in terms of power, quiet or handling. The engine has to scream to actually go anywhere quickly. Gawd, what a joy that is. The G. Marquis moves out effortlessly, smoothly and quietly. I REALLY don't know what the attraction to the Avalon is. It's had as much or more work done to it than the Mercury (which isn't much for either), so reliability can't be the reason. Beats me. All I can say is BFD!
Because the Avalon is a Toyota. Regardless of impressions of ride comfort and power, that means better resale by a long shot, and better reliability by a long shot (your single experiences aside, Toyota has a far better history of quality than Mercury).

Nissan and/or Infinity consistently come up with these wierd looking cars - while not outright ugly (well, some of them are), they never look good at first glance, and it takes a long time to get used to their shape. They look good only from a few angles, and only when not directly compared to a good looking car side by side. I think all this BS comes probably from the same misguided design team, which for some reason keeps getting the managements backing for their "designs". This could be because Nissan was on the brink of extinction, that they needed to come up with radical new designs, and their cars are usually pretty good performance wise and priced lower than the competition, but the external design leaves a lot to be desired. That includes the M45, G35, the ugly Altima and Maxima, and pretty much most of their other cars.

So is it your goal in life to go into every car thread that isn't about a Crown Vic or a Mercury Marquis and extoll about the joy and the wonder that is a massive RWD platform w/ a V8?

Fixed that up a little.

Is this directed at Ornery? If so, I agree completely

you sound like my father. i can honestly say that his 2003 G. Marquis is not the worst car i've ever driven, although the V8 seems to struggle when you push it hard, it still is a quiet, smooth ride.

The sound of that v12 brings a tear to everyone's eye, even the car itself, the beautiful thing.

Uhh, compared to what?

compared to the umm....E55 AMG...duh! :p

I think he means that Infiniti's been having that 340hp V8 for a while now as compared to its competitors that just started pushing 300+ hp.

I think now that Infiniti's sorted out the rear-diff & tranny issue, it won't be as slow as before.

Plus it might be underrated :p

E55 AMD is a special model. The M45 is actually doing quite well compared to its competition

E500: 302HP
545i: 325HP
GS430: 300HP
A6 4.2: 300HP
STS: 320HP

Seems pretty par for the course. Now if it were an M45 Spec-V or something, I'd expect 400+ :)

I was being sarcastic.

And I didn't know AMD partaked in creating performance M-B. Must be their new 64-bit architecture that provides the torque eh?

i thought it was too low based on the fact that the engine is more than 2yrs old. and not upping the power almost makes it a stagnant design.
