My company was bought by a larger company that is part of a publicly-held fortune 500 company at some point between when I interned there in college and when I got a full time job there a couple of years after college. Most of the people who have been there for a long time wish it was still a small, privately owned company. It's just a completely different atmosphere.

There are advantages to big companies and advantages to small companies. To each his own.
