Actually decided on the 3570 instead of 2700K

Price point wise isn't the 3570k more or less in line with the 2500K? Excluding Microcenter prices of course.

And a second question comes to mind. If the 2500k is/was considered the best bang for the buck in SB CPUs. What would be the best bang for the buck in IB? Would it be the 3570k?

This, 3570K should be compared to 2500K, 3770K should be compared to 2600K/2700K

If you're only doing minor video editing, why even bother upgrading? the i5 750 should still be more than enough for that. Sounds like someone just needed an excuse jump on the IB train. :sneaky:

I just checked your signature..How do you like the 3570 K? Was it easy to OC? I am going to OC mine to at least 4.5 when I get it.

Rock solid on air and two changes in the bios got me to this overclock. Everyone saying that IB is harder to overclock is exaggerating.

Concur with Don. Very easy.
Other than all power saving features enabled, just:
1) set cpu voltage to 1.25 or 1.3 depending on your chip, board, vdroop and
2) set the multi to 45.

I had a rough first few months of the year with family situations so I am treating myself to a few little gifts. Some people use alcohol..I buy cameras and processors🙂

For the same cost 3570K new at 235 cnd after tax or a used 2700K 1 mth old w receipt that I can get for $230

Board being used is a Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3, video editing casually and gsming will be primary use of the combo. For same price would one go with the 2700K

I currently have an I5-750 and am getting into video editing..just minor things for personal use. I was going to go ahead and get the 2700K as IB wasn't going to add much to the palate in terms of performance..but then I saw where the unlocked 3570 was only going to be 212 dollars..2700K was going to cost me $340 on NewEgg...and the "lowly" I5-3570 outperforms it. I am surprised the 3570 isn't getting as much attention...definitely a lot of bang for the buck.

Get the 2600K for 290$, the 100% same esact thing as a 2700K and it will destrpy the 3570.

What is it with people recommending Sandy Bridge over Ivy Bridge in these forums. IB is the way to go now. Buying older tech is of no advantage unless its far cheaper than the newer tech. Ivy will overclock very well and without an issue and is no reason to avoid the platform. If you compare a 2500k to a 3570k the 3570k is about 5-15% faster in most apps so if your OC ends up being a bit lower on IB than Sandy the ICP improvements will make up for it.

We'll add a new forum: Twelve-Step Program for Compulsive Computer-Builders.

"Hi! I'm Bonzai-Duck! [Hi, Bonzai!] I'm a computer-holic. I just love my i7-2600K/Z68 system, but I'm going crazy now -- lusting to build a Z77 with an i7-3770K. I look at my credit-cards, my savings account . . . . I . . . I . . . . just can't HELP myself! . . . What am I going to do with all these computers?!"
