Halle Berry played a tore up looking crack head, and did a convincing job, now that's good acting.

WTF no Kate Winslet here yet? I am disappoint; I love her and she always does amazing work, no matter the role. :(

Definitely do love her, and considered her for this thread but she doesn't really have much variety in the types of movies/roles she does.

Oh I disagree, so many different roles in different styles of films:

The Reader (rough German)
The Holiday (flighty girl in a rom-com)
Little Children (the confused/bored Mother and Wife)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (punky, wild girl)
Extras (just one episode, but shows how damned funny she can be).

Of course she could be my favourite actress, so I am biased. :D

Don't know about "most" versatile, but my opinion of Anne Hathaway changed a lot after seeing Rachel Getting Married.
Keira Knightley showed a lot of versatility, doing two very different roles in Pride and Prejudice and Domino in the same year.

Kathy Bates
Nicole Kidman

I love Nicole Kidman, but unfortunately few of her movies ever do well (recently atleast).

Kathy Bates is an outstanding choice.

Charlize Theron
Kate Winslet
Sigourney Weaver
Gwyneth Paltrow
Susan Sarandon
Faye Dunaway
Keira Knightley
Jodie Foster

Wow...we have very similar movie tastes and we also share the same favorite actress. I have joked with my wife that Kate Winslett is the only woman I would leave her for :) Revolutionary Road was another good one.

If you want an amazing and beautiful performance from her, you should watch Dogville. She is just stunning in that film. Could be tough for some people to watch, since it's kind of like a 3 hour play on film, but wow, the film and Kidman in-particular are simply amazing.

Yep, I loved her in that too. I'm actually one of the few I know that really liked that film and she is one of the big reasons why.

I was introduced to this movie by a Greg The Bunny parody (http://www.ifc.com/videos/greg-the-bunny--sockville.php)

"I went to a weird black void where out-of-work actors walked around with nothing but props and gaff tape..."
