(CNN) -- A six-car accident left actor Tracy Morgan in critical condition in New Jersey early Saturday, authorities said.

The former "Saturday Night Live" cast member was riding in a limo bus when the accident occurred in Mercer County, said Sgt. Gregory William of New Jersey State Police.

In addition to the bus, the wreck involved two tractor-trailers and an SUV, he said. He did not provide specifics on what happened.

One person was killed and four others hospitalized with injuries, authorities said.

Peter Haigney, a spokesman for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, said four patients are getting treated at the hospital.

Three are in critical condition while one is in fair condition, he said.

Haigney declined to say whether Morgan was among the patients, but state police confirmed his identity to CNN.

Morgan also starred on NBC's hit sitcom, "30 Rock."

Just heard this on NPR. 🙁

When I first saw him on 30 Rock, I thought his over-the-top character was annoying. Later I happened upon some vids of his previous stand-up, in which he was sane, dead nuts funny, and in control.

I came to see that his 30 Rock character was an exaggeration of the nuttier parts of his real-life persona. He came from "the hood," and no doubt grew up with a chip on his shoulder and a massive cultural inferiority complex.

I came to see him as a good guy who wears his somewhat fractured heart on his sleeve.

I wish him well.

Do people in those big limos normally wear seat belts?
I read somewhere one of the limo passengers died.

At least this one did not catch fire and burn everyone inside.

Anyway, I wish them the best and hope they all make a full recovery.

I'm guessing rarely/ever unless it's an airport limo. The photos I've seen of this "bus limo" he was in doesn't look like there are even seat belts. Looks like a luxury living room or lounge on wheels.

Worried about Ardie Fuqua, dude was in the car and hasn't been posting to FB like he usually does. He's an awesome guy.

After I watched his homophobic hate speech pretending to be a comedy routine, I was appalled and at that point I completely stopped watching new episodes of 30 Rock. And I absolutely LOVE Tina Fey and anything she does. Which is a shame. His poorly thought out bigoted stand up bit will forever taint the series now not just to me, but to millions of others who watched the show, too.

Unfortunately for him, now I simply can't see him being the detached from reality funny guy on the show like I used to. And his unfunny outburst most certainly helped to kill the show. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. And more recently, Alec Baldwin's raging homophobia and physical violence against those photographers certainly didn't help the legacy of 30 Rock, either.

That being said, after the fact, he seemed to feel some sense of remorse for his hurtful outburst. Was he sincerely sorry because he was just having a bad night at the comedy club for some reason, like too much booze, or was it just spin control to keep his job and the series alive for a bit longer, I can't personally say. But I would like to think his apologies were sincere because people can change their hatred into something positive. But it's just unfortunate for him he had to act out his phobia to reach this revelation.

At any rate, this news of his accident upset me for reasons I can't quite understand myself, which is unusual for me. I guess I spent so much time watching 30 Rock and laughing with him before that he's kind of grown on me in spite of his outspoken opinion on gays.

Words do hurt, and words do kill, and words can heal, too. I just hope his heart keeps healing along with the rest of him, and I truely wish him well and a long and happy life. This world sorely needs more comedians, even occasionally unfunny ones. Are you listening Michael Richards aka Cosmo Kramer?

Took me a while, too, but I came to love his character in 30 Rock. Also, Brian Fellowes.

Hope he pulls through.
