I have never played any of the COD games, but it is a pretty amazing feat. It seems that they are able to produce a new game every year, so development time must be very low, or they have multiple teams working to get out each sequel as quickly as possible.

I know that I have no interest in playing any of the COD games, but they must be pretty fun if they consistantly sell so well.

CoD is such a pile of shit. Why even bother playing it? Whenever I get the itch to play a shooter I join the army.

Plenty of shitty movies rake in hundreds of millions of dollars too. Or are you about to call the Twilight series a masterpiece of modern art and storytelling?

He didn't say that the CoD series was a masterpiece though.

Plenty of people enjoy the CoD games as well other games like BF3 or Skyrim.

Considering movie tickets are a hell of a lot cheaper than video games, I'm actually somewhat surprised it took this long.

I would have bought MW3 if I already didn't have BF3 to play, I may eventually pick it up when I'm completely bored. The bottom line is, the COD games are actually pretty fun, the main reason why people hate on the game is because it's released with very little change each year. It's not like the game has poor gameplay or design.

I rented it on Xbox 360 this weekend. It got old pretty damn quick. There isn't much strategy behind the game, it's just a mindless "Run & Gun" game like the previous 3 or 4.

just a testament to the fact that people are stupid sheep and you can feed them the same shit over and over again and they will still buy it as it was brand new..

I weep for humanity. I mean Sheepmanity

COD is a lightening rod because it is the most successful AAA game. It reifies the repetition, pandering, and commoditization of AAA video game development in a single tangible IP that people can hate on.

COD games have to be easy to play, coded for controllers, developed primarily for LCD hardware requirements (i.e. consoles), written for 12 year olds with short attention spans who hate reading, with all final game dev decisions made by the marketing and/or business side of the company blah blah.

But that shit happens in 99% of AAA games. The whole point of developing a AAA is to make money; so why fund a game that limits the potential audience or deviates from the tried and true. Why risk a $100 000 000 on something with deep involved gameplay requiring half decent hardware, & that wasn't super easy to master?

As Jeffrey Katzenberg said, "its a hell of a lot easier to sell stupid shit to smart people than smart shit to stupid people."

If they know it's the fastest to that dollar amount then surely they know how many digital copies they sold and I'd like to know that amount :)

I'd play it more but no ranked dedicated servers soured it for me. Too many times I've been around a corner, or the guy isnt even hitting me, and boom...dead. BF3's TDM is a good enough substitute for that kind of quick twitch gameplay. I wish someone else would make this a three horse race.

I would love BF3...besides the fact that it won't work from an earlier released patch for...4 weeks now.

You mean like the Medal of Honor franchise? They tried, but I guess not a big enough following. I can name a dozen faults with Call of Duty, but there is still no games like it.

My 10 year old nephew loves CoD. When I saw him over thanksgiving CoD was all he could talk about. All of his friends play it as well. Isn't the game rated teen or something?

Hook the kids and the $ will role in, I guess.

Last time I checked, Call of Duty is an M-rated game. Doesn't seem to matter though because the community is largely populated by 12-year-olds anyway.

Unfortunately MoH was really just BFBC 2.5. Its still Dice, and MoH was the foundation for the Vietnam expansion and a lot of it is in BF3. I guess Homefront had their 15 min. But how hard can it be to make a game that strips the annoying aspects out of COD and BF!
