activex slow in win xp but not in win2k...why?

as the title says...

i had to use activex controls to fill out law school apps online recently. filling out applications was a pain on my laptop which has winxp (sp2) on it (brand new dell inspiron 8600). however, when i was at work, i had no problems filling out the apps (no issues with speed, work machine has win2k on it)....

any way to make it run as quickly on my winxp machine? why does this happen?
